Tribal Belly Dance- Beginner

NEW CLASS STARTS JANUARY 7TH. Tribal Belly Dance is a fusion dance style inspired by traditional belly dance movements and blended with stylistic influences from India, Asia, Africa, Spain and the Middle East. The movements are strong and sensual, and are meant to showcase the beauty of the dancers. This dance is unique in that is it performed as a group or “tribe” using subtle movement cues to improvisational lead and follow one another.

In this introductory class we will start by learning the basic movements and work our way up to dancing successfully as a group. Each class will include a warm up, some movement drills, and a cool down. Tribal style costuming and make-up will be demonstrated and depending on the group’s progression we may get to some basic veil techniques as well.

This class is a great way to get in shape, work out any built up tension you may have from your day, and a chance to be surrounded by a group of positive female energies. All ages, shapes, sizes and experience levels are encouraged. Wear comfortable clothes that allow free movement.

Afro-Caribbean Dance- Katherine Dunham Technique ****New Fall Session Starts September 16th*

Learn the dance styles that originated in Africa and then came to us via the Caribbean Islands and Brazil. Based on the Katherine Dunham Technique, this class builds strength through rhythmic exercises and develops co-ordination using movement involving isolations, bar work and progressions.

Live drummers accompany class.

Wear comfortable clothes and bare feet to allow free movement.

Inner Fire Yoga

Based on the philosophy of making yoga accessible to all that have an interest, the Inner Fire approach is grounded in traditional principles that make it a safe and healthy experience. This class combines an artful balance of asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), yoga teachings, mantra, and meditation for all levels. Classes work to create a positive effect on all aspects of human nature including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Vinyasa

All Levels - Hatha

We will be starting with the basics of yoga, learning to make a strong body/mind connection. Building strength, confidence and a solid foundation, students will soon be able to navigate through any yoga class. This class will include pranayama (breath work), gentle asana (postures) practice and beginning mediation.

Class is 75 minutes long and will be on-going.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement.

Free Mediation

You’re invited to attend a free meditation Class with Ed Carlos, a Master Shiatsu practitioner. Wear comfortable clothes and bring your friends.

Tribal Belly Dance is a fusion dance style inspired by traditional belly dance movements and blended with stylistic influences from India, Asia, Africa, Spain and the Middle East. The movements are strong and sensual, and are meant to showcase the beauty of the dancers. This dance is unique in that is it performed as a group or “tribe” using subtle movement cues to improvisational lead and follow one another.

In this class will continue to build your dance vocabulary. You will learn different formations, learn new ways to transition between leaders, learn new methods for switching sides, all while becoming more comfortable dancing your current vocabulary of moves. Focus on layering. Some zills and veil work will be included. Each class will include a warm up, some movement drills, and a cool down. Tribal style costuming and make-up will be demonstrated and depending on the group’s progression we may get to some basic veil techniques as well.

Yogadelphia

Yogadelphia connects the practice Classical Yoga to modern living so you can learn from daily challenges and have means to release every stress. In this class we will employ the tools of breathing techniques and move into gentle stretching poses, additionally we explore the theory behind what we are doing. Through short talks we will illuminate concepts so they are are clear and accessible to beginners while advanced students will find deeper meaning in their practice.

We will explore various means of meditation and then wait in silence so see what happens. Our meditation is more akin to a Quaker meeting as people are free to speak from of the silence if they are led to share and class will end with a handshake.
